Bergstrom Stove Works Property
D.W. and George Bergstrom bought the Neenah Stove Works in 1878 for $20,000. The property included “one acre of land, two large stone buildings and machinery therein, also stove patterns [and] stock on hand” ("Northwestern on Bergstrom"). But soon, due to the steadily growing business, in 1880, another newspaper article states that the “Bergstrom Bros. contemplate making extensive additions to their stove works” ("Bergstrom Improvements"). In 1880, it was decided that they would expand, adding a building “213 feet in length and 30 feet in width, two stories high” that would “fill the gap that now exists between the foundry and their mammoth warehouse” ("Bergstrom Expansion"). The goal of the additions would be to “increase the volume of their manufactured products 33 percent” ("Bergstrom Brothers") to keep up with the growing demands.
